Thank you for your interest in Liverpool Citizen Advocacy

What we do...

Liverpool Citizen Advocacy (LCA) promotes a form of active citizenship, in which one member of the community makes a commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of another who is in a position of particular disadvantage and/or social exclusion. These rights-focussed relationships are what we call community or informal advocacy partnerships.

Derek Connellan RIP

It was with great sadness that we heard the news that Derek Connellan had passed away peacefully on 5th April. Derek was a founder member of Liverpool Citizen Advocacy and a much-loved member of our community. He frequently participated and supported our events and activities until he moved to Church View Nursing Home in 2020. Over the years, he was also active in the self-advocacy movement.

Our sympathy goes out to his citizen advocate and dear friend Charlotte and her family and friends who became Derek's extended family. Our condolences also to Derek's friends and carers at Church View, who we are sure will miss him greatly.

Derek's funeral service was held in a packed St. Bede's on Tuesday 23rd April. The service was followed by lunch and a celebration of his life in the Church hall. Several people recalled their memories of him, and a sing song was held featuring some of Derek’s favourite numbers.  Good night, Derek, and thank you for enriching our lives.
