George Monaghan RIP

It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of George Monaghan on 12th May following a brave fight against Cancer. For many years, George had authored and facilitated quizzes at St. Bede’s and elsewhere. This was initially for Channel, but in recent years for the Agnes Woodford Project, as well as for several other charities. He was present at all our celebrations at our community base. We are still drawing upon an archive of his quizzes for our regular fundraising events. We will be holding a quiz in memory of George at our base at St. Bede’s on Friday 22nd September. It is only fitting that we will be using rounds from his archive. We have lost a very special friend in George, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends in their, and our, loss.

Nigel Mellor RIP

George’s passing follows the sudden death of Nigel Mellor in April. Nigel was well known and much respected among community, voluntary and faith organisations both in the city and far beyond it. Through his role in the City Council, he worked hard to support the many small groups working to make our communities more just and inclusive.

He was a particularly good and generous friend to Liverpool Citizen Advocacy and a loyal supporter of our work. We owe a great debt to him. Nigel will be greatly missed by us all, and we offer our sincere condolences to his loved ones. There will be a memorial event for Nigel on Friday 21st July and further details will be posted here nearer the time.

Weekly signposting drop-in
We hold a weekly drop-in at our community base in St. Bede’s. This is for people who need help with a problem but don’t know where to start in dealing with it. We will listen to enquirers and point them in the right direction for the most appropriate support.
The sessions will run from 12pm to 4pm.

What we do...

LCA promotes a form of active citizenship, in which one member of the community makes a commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of another who is in a position of particular disadvantage and/or social exclusion. These rights-focussed relationships are what we call community partnerships.
